I am not a Digital Native, but I wouldn’t consider myself a Digital Immigrant either. Growing up, I didn’t have much technology surrounding me. In third grade, I got to use my first computer. There was a computer lab at my elementary school that every class got to use once a week. Our teacher would walk us down to the computer lab, and leave us with the computer teacher. We learned how to type but nothing more. When I was in middle school I finally learned how to use computers to research on the internet and other databases. There wasn’t a computer that I could use in my home until I reached seventh grade. I also didn’t receive a cellphone until I graduated from middle school in eighth grade. My biggest technology years were formed in high school and I continue to learn more about technology to this day. When new technology came out, I learned how to use them almost immediately. This simple fact alone is why I don’t consider myself a Digital Immigrant.
